Ingredients

  • 1 cup good quality balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar light or dark

Instructions

  • 1 cup good quality balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, light or dark
  • Instructions
  • Add the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar to a small saucepan and whisk to combine.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring so the sugar dissolves.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes, until reduced by about half and the glaze coats the back of a spoon.
  • Remove from the heat and let cool completely. The glaze will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Transfer to an airtight glass jar or squeeze bottle and refrigerate.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Let it sit at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes before using.
  • Too thick: Warm gently and stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of balsamic vinegar or water.
  • Too thin: Simmer a few minutes longer. It thickens as it cools.
  • Sugar-free option: Skip the brown sugar for a classic balsamic reduction. Plan on a longer simmer.
  • Simmer gently: A hard boil can burn the sugar and make the glaze bitter.
